“Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called,”
Ephesians 4:1
I am currently doing a study of the epistle of Paul to the Ephesians.
As I study the teachings contained there in, I am amazed and humbled at the wonderful undeserving Grace that God has bestowed on us who believe in His only begotten Son the Lord Jesus Christ. The Church has received wondrous blessings in union with Christ.
I absolutely love this book as I discover new things I did not know.
The 20th century Welsh minister Martin Lloyd-Jones said that there was “nothing more sublime in the whole of Scripture” than Paul’s letter to the Ephesians.
I couldn’t agree more.
I began my study a few weeks ago reading the book daily for many days. As the Holy Spirit began to give me understanding of what I was reading tears of joy and gratefulness filled my eyes .
Isn’t it the most marvellous thing when the Holy Spirit illuminates Scripture to us ?, A oneness with the Triune God of creation through His most blessed Word. An Indescribably Encounter!
What joy and hope fills my soul with each sacred word and promise to us who believe the blessed gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I can’t hardly contain my excitement at the richness I am discovering in this blessed epistle.
I have now began an in-depth study of this majestic letter that we know as “Ephesians”. I was blessed to have availed myself of the online resources in Spanish.
It is a wonderful new experience for me to read the Word of God in my first language.
Here is a list of some of the golden nuggets, (from the first chapter)I have been digging out of the treasures buried in this book.
The list in by no means exhaustive as I know that there is a treasure trove of gems yet to be discovered.
There are six chapters in this book. I will be sharing one chapter every few weeks. I pray it will be a blessing to you as I endeavour to share what I am learning.
The first chapter is all about the SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS WE HAVE IN CHRIST.
Some key points
. We have been adopted into the family of God.
. We have been chosen before the foundation of the world.
. We have been redeemed
. We have been forgiven
. We have been sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise
. Paul prays that we will have a revelation of Christ so
that we will know the hope we have been
called to as His body, the Church of whom He is the
head.
Some Key verses
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,”
Ephesians 1:3
“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace”
Ephesians 1:7

“He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.”
Ephesians 1:5-6
“also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will,”
Ephesians 1:11
“In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.”
Ephesians 1:13-14
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”
Ephesians 1:18-23
Thank you for reading. Any thing you, the reader, would like to share about this chapter please do so in the comments. Your thoughts and comments are welcomed.
An expository preacher could spend his entire lifetime in this first chapter of Ephesians and never exhaust the plethora of truth therein.

I am listening to MLJ for the last week, two sermons per day or more if I can’t sleep and he is still on the third verse. Not sure if I would live long enough to hear the end of the whole book.

Ephesians is one of the deepest books of Scripture ( along with Hebrews). Adding the preaching of MLJ to any Biblical study enriches our kearning massively. I first encountered him from a dear brother and Pastor many years ago.

To think of a perspective, just one of those gems of truth are worth way more than all the riches the world could offer

I especially love chapter 6, about putting on the whole armor of God, as we are in a battle daily with the unseen forces of evil. In my daily prayers I give the Lord my body (Romans 12:1) and put on the belt of truth, give Him my mind (Romans 12:2) and put on the helmet of salvation, give Him my heart and put on the breastplate of righteousness, etc. I find praying Scripture very powerful.

Catching up to a past post, and I am blessed to find this one. In my Bible, the pages of many of Paul’s epistles are well-worn. Crissy, thanks for encouraging me to read Ephesians with a renewed sense of digging deeper into the verses. God’s peace.

Martyn Lloyd-Jones has a excellent sermon study on this epistle. These series are helping me to dig deeper and I am getting a lot out of it.
Thank you for you comment Richard.
Have a blessed Sunday.
