“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.
Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly.
Do not be wise in your own estimation.
Never pay back evil for evil to anyone.
Respect what is right in the sight of all men.
If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.
Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord. “BUT IF YOUR ENEMY IS HUNGRY, FEED HIM, AND IF HE IS THIRSTY, GIVE HIM A DRINK; FOR IN SO DOING YOU WILL HEAP BURNING COALS ON HIS HEAD.”
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Romans 12:14-21

Thanks, Crissy. This is one of those passages that really brings home how God’s thoughts and ways aren’t our (in the flesh) thoughts and ways.

And when we do it His way we reap the rewards. Although the flesh rises up in protest . One day, one glorious day we shall be free from this battle.

I thank you for sharing, Crissy. I once heard a sermon by Martyn Lloyd Jones, on the passage concerning do good to enemies and heap coals of fire on their heads. The message was amazing and revealed how life transforming it is to bless those who hate us. that by doing good to them, we totally offset their wrath against us, and they come under conviction that what they say against us is not really right. this understanding is amazing.
thank you for sharing this. 🙂

Thank you for your valuable comment. God’s ways are totally opposite to the world. When we do things God’s way is life transforming as you said .
Grace and peace to you.

Your highlighted verse puts me in mind of a quote I believe of Martin Luther King, but not sure. It went something like this. “Hate can’t destroy Hate. Only love can.”

That’s such an important scripture during these days and times. Even here at the facility where I live, I have to interact with so many different people and it can be easy to get frustrated at times. I pray for the fruits of the spirit to increase inside of me. Thank you for sharing this scripture.

Blessings as we seek to display the fruit of the Spirit and not give in to our flesh. (So hard at times…🙏)

I can’t believe I have missed this post, Crissy! It is good that I checked your site. So true and thank you for sharing. We should strive to repay good to those who do evil to us and it is really hard to do it; only by GOD’s grace can we overcome/do it. They say figuratively, fight fire with fire. It will just burn both and why not fire with…wat…fire extinguisher.

As you said Clark. Only by God’s Grace and a will to obey.
To God be the Glory. Forever.

Thanks Crissy. My morning prayer time includes a petition asking others to follow Jesus’ teaching of the Golden Rule. As Christians, we also need to leave judgement to the God.
