Every week, a team from our church goes out to share the gospel in the streets of our city. I am part of this group .
The Lord has blessed us with many opportunities to share the gospel and pray with people . But of course we also have had our share of rejection and insults.
Last Friday, two men from Tonga approached our group. One of them came over to me and asked me what church we were from, I responded that we were Christians. Then he asked me what I thought of gays and gay marriage.
A quick glance and I noticed that the two men were wearing identical wedding rings. First thought in my mind was that these two men were a couple. Second thought was their size compared to me, they were well over six feet in height, I on the other hand have almost made it to five feet, they were strong built and I am the opposite.
Get the picture ?
FEAR struck!!!
While I was busy planning a quick get away, the man asked me again,
“what do you think of gay marriage, is it right?“
“What do you think of gays? “
So I began to slowly tell him that God created Adam and Eve and that marriage was between a man and a woman. Then he asked me, “so you are telling me that same sex marriage is wrong,?”, his tone of voice was confronting and I was tongue tied. After a few uncomfortable moments he asked me if I had read Romans chapter one. Of course I said. Then he told me that I should be bold when speaking God’s truth . He continued saying that I should not let fear of man take over . Gay marriage is wrong and I should have said that when he asked me even if I thought that they were gay. I should have said that gays will go to hell unless they repent and put their faith in Jesus. He continued saying that we Christians need to stand up and be like Jesus. We need to shine His light in this dark world . And so he continued preaching . By then the rest of the group had joined us. One of the ladies in our group asked if they were Christians and they said yes. They said that they pretended not to be Christians to see how bold we were when speaking God’s Truth. So we asked them what church they attended, we were shocked when they said “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints”.
At this point they said they had to go They shook hands with us and told us to keep up the good work sharing the gospel and not to be afraid to offend anyone and off they went.
The way they were speaking to us and preaching was totally Biblical and yet they were Mormons. Their Jesus is not the Jesus of the Bible.
I still don’t know what to make out of the whole experience. Except that he was right . I let fear take over. Now I can seek the Lord to help me in my weakness and pray for boldness in all situations.
“On the day I called, You answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul.”
Psalms 138:3 NASB
Wow! If nothing else it seems God sent those guys to tell YOU something. It wasn’t necessarily about them, but what an incredible experience of God talking directly to you to not be afraid. Even the rocks will cry out.
Thank you for sharing this story. How encouraging! Keep running the race and fighting the good fight. I’ve been very convicted of the opportunities I miss as well… but what can man do to me? If God is for us who can stand against?

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I agree with you those big guys came directly to me, their eye contact and questions were directed to me only. When I think about it God can talk to us through anyone saved or unsaved even a donkey as we read in His Word.
I appreciate you reading and commenting.
Blessings ❤️🌸

We have a real tough looking guy at my work. Tall. Slim. Tattoos. Rough looking. Always wearing sunglasses.
He’s a Christian! I don’t see him often, but he comes in every now and then and says, “What’s the Word today?” and we share back and forth.
It’s really hilarious and yes looks can be deceiving. One time I told him to take off his glasses because I thought it was just to make him look cool. He said, “Why? They’re prescription. I can’t see!”
Humble pie. haha!

Haha!
What a blessing to have someone at work who is of the faith.
I try hard not to judge people by their looks. Sometimes I fail miserably. If not for God’s Grace where would I be? . When I look back I can see I have come a long way in that area. Praise God for the Spirit of Jesus that progressively changes us into His image as we yield in obedience to His Word.🙏🌺🍃

Bless you for going out to spread the good news! If the Mormons, politicians and salespeople are out there spreading their “gospels” so should we with the Gospel of God!

Good post, Crissy! As those two men exhorted you to boldly teach what the Bible teaches about gay “marriage,” they also need to hear that Joseph Smith taught a false gospel.

Exactly . This is why we were surprised. I didn’t think Mormons believed in hell. That was a very unusual encounter I had.

Several years ago, conservative political radio personality and Mormon, Glenn Beck, was invited to appear on TBN, the so-called Christian cable network, to speak about America’s great Judeo-Christian heritage and the need to return the country back to godly morality. Such an alliance is wrong on so many counts.

Thank you for sharing your story. The motivation for sharing the good news of Jesus has to be love for others. John 3:`6 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son…” Love casts out all fear. When we truly love, it compels us to share. Love for the perishing. Hugs and love as you venture out on the streets!

Hi Sonrisa,
I believe *Compassion overrides all.
Yes, Gay marriage is a heated topic, especially among the Christian community but why make “one group” of people exempt from receiving the Gospel?
If we encountered someone that may be Gay why reject them? That would be “selective ministry.” We can teach all people with all backgrounds. Even if they remained the same, unchanging, our Job as Christ followers is to be the example of the love of Jesus.
God will measure us not by the weight of our sin but what we have become in this life.
Thanks for letting me comment.

I just found your message in spam.
I agree with you the Gospel is for everyone. We are all born into sin. Once we are born again by the power of the Holy Spirit we are new creations. Therefore we will reject sin and follow Christ.
Blessings.
