Ah, Holy Jesus
Ah, holy Jesus, how have You offended,
that mortal judgment has on You descended?
By foes derided, by Your own rejected,
O most afflicted!
Who was the guilty? Who brought this upon You?
Alas, my treason, Jesus, has undone You!
‘Twas I, Lord Jesus, I it was denied You;
I crucified You.
Lo, the Good Shepherd for the sheep is offered;
the slave has sinnèd, and the Son has suffered.
For our atonement, while we nothing heeded,
God interceded.
For me, kind Jesus, was Your incarnation,
Your mortal sorrow, and Your life’s oblation;
Your death of anguish and Your bitter passion,
for my salvation.
Therefore, kind Jesus, since I cannot pay You,
I do adore You, and will ever pray You,
think on Your pity and Your love unswerving,
not my deserving.
–Johann Heermann, 1630
tr. Robert Bridges, 1899
Crissy, this is timely! This should lead/prompt us to ask the Triune GOD for forgiveness. This is so true that every time we sinned 1) it is like we nailed GOD the Son futher on the cross and 2) JESUS paid for it all and not us (as we cannot pay even for a single sin). Blessings to you and your family this Resurrection Sunday mi amiga!

I couldn’t read the words of the song without crying. What a God, what a Saviour !!
May you be refreshed and feel His presence.
Blessings Kent.

Thanks, Crissy! Excellent hymn. Sometimes we Christians start to get a sanctimonious attitude and something like this reminds us we came to Jesus without one single plea of our own.

Thanks for sharing. I am well, but I had a heart-cath a month ago. One artery has an 80 % blockage. I didn’t have any chest pains, but a stress test gave the results.

I am sorry to hear about your artery. I hope all is going well.
I will keep you in my prayers.
