My daughter and I were having a delicious lunch on this sunny spring day.
Surrounded by beauty, and the serenity of the moment, the conversation flowed peacefully. All was going well. I was delighted to have precious moments with my youngest child, UNTIL!!! somehow the talk turned to God.
The serenity and peace went away, and the attack began.
Among many things I heard how I am one sided and not opened to deviate from what I believe to be true from a book that has been changed and translated many times. And in any case what I believe about God and salvation is only my opinion. There are many Christian denominations and all differ.
I was also reminded that she keeps all the commandments except one so that makes it ok.
Needless to say I was not able to get a word in. Jesus is the Way the Truth and the Life and no one comes to the Father except through Jesus was all I was able to quote.
After a while she left the table to get something . It was my opportunity to tell the Holy Spirit that I wasn’t doing this anymore . I told the Lord how I was tired of sharing the gospel and having negative reactions . Tired of not seeing anyone get convicted and saved. Tired of using His Word and not seeing anyone repent and turn to the only Saviour. With tears I told Him I had enough. It was over, no more sharing His truth in love from now on.
Moments later my child comeback . Her words to me were that I was isolating myself from everyone by my beliefs. That she loved me but that she did not agree with me or my self righteous attitude about what I believe. She added that because of my always wanting to seek God her father divorced me. (19 years ago).
Suddenly joy filled my heart. How true it is that we children of the living God are isolated. Sometimes in can be very lonely. The words of Jesus about the cost of being a disciple lifted me up .
Jesus tells us clearly in these verses:
If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me, cannot be My disciple.”
Luke 14: 26-27
In other words, being a disciple costs us everything. Could be our family , possessions or even our own life . We must be willing to lay it all down to follow Jesus.
To end the conversation she said we will have to agree to disagree.
On my way home I asked God to forgive me for wanting to give up. I said that I will continue to speak God’s Truth and share the gospel of Jesus no matter what happens to me as a result.
May God have mercy on my family and grant them repentance.
We can not save ourselves . Salvation is of the Lord. My heart’s desire and prayer to God for my family is that they may be saved.
Friend if you do not know Jesus as your Saviour you are headed for judgement.
We read in God’s Word:
And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment,”
Hebrews 9:27
God is Holy we are sinners. God is a God of love but God is also a judge. He hates sin the Bible says that the wages of sin is death.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23
“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
2 Corinthians 5:20
Good mornin, I have experienced rejection also from some family members because of my zeal for Christ, so please know that you’re not alone. 🙂
You’re daughter made one point that does need to be considered by all Christians however…that there are so many different bible versions, and so many denominations…and many of them have a conflicting message from one another.
That criticism is true of Christianland.
So I invite all of my fellow Christians to do as I have done in this regard…
Use only the authorized version of the bible, and don’t identify yourself with any denomination or systematic theology.
That way we all speak the same thing, and none of us follow extrabiblical men & their divisions in the body of Christ.
All glory to the risen Lord Jesus Christ.

Thanks, Crissy. It’s sad and frustrating when our children and other close family members don’t want to know the Lord and become angry with us when we reach out to them with the Gospel. I prayed for your daughter.

Yes, Chrissy, it does. We all want to give up at times.
And on that note, I think I’ll go hand out a few tracts. ❤

I’m so sorry to read this, dear sister, although your honesty was encouraging. Particularly in that I have felt the same way in regard to family members. But I look at my little girl, and can not imagine the heartbreak of the conversation you had with yours. I stopped what I was doing and prayed for your daughter, and for you, and sister I will continue to do so until the Lord either brings me home or grants her the gift of repentance and faith. If there are any other family members I could pray for, please let me know!

Sometimes the best road is through prayer. Prayer brings God into the conversation, and it allows Him to do the heavy lifting.

Lovely. Remember that our children know the truth and will someday repeat the truth in the Holy Spirit. His words NEVER fail.:)

I know someone going through this exact thing now. They lost their whole family due to Christ. I am currently not married, but have learned just how important it is to not be unequally yoked. I am given a hard time for my stance because my standards are too high and I’ll never find it.
It’s not my job to find it. “He who finds a wife…” not she who finds a husband. Until God brings him to me it is my job to draw near to Jesus and Him alone. Only in Him can you be satisfied and have everything you’ll ever need. I am thankful to have grown up with a God fearing, bible reading Dad although I haven’t always seen it that way. I am thankful God called me and reconciled us, but us two are the black sheep of our whole family so I can understand this post so well.
This was amazing and encouraging although it doesn’t always feel that way, I know. These scriptures immediately danced in my head:
Matthew 10
Philippians 3:7-11
1 Corinthians 7

It’s crucial not to be unequally yoked. Praise God that you know it and you wait on the Lord. Great Scriptures that you quoted. It’s only when we face trials or come under attack for our faith that we really know where our loyalties lie.
Thank you for reading and for your valuable comment.
God bless you

Praying for you and your family. The spirit of oppression works against anything that looks like holiness, without which we will never see God. The Lord is the only one who can change and draw your daughter to Him. Continue to praise Him for giving you new life in Him. Let it shine through all the disagreements with the joy for the Master. Remember what He faced and walked through to give us this life. Be ready for a day when your daughter will come to you, asking how to find this life. Blessings as you wait and trust in Him.

Don’t give up Sonrisa. Continue to pray for your family. God will touch their hearts. As a matter of fact when they are so defensive it is because God is convicting their hearts. Blessings to you.
